About Tracey Jo Taylor

Tracey is originally from Chincoteague Island, Virginia. She earned her Bachelors of Fine Art pursuing the Communication Arts and Design track with a concentration in Illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her illustrations regularly appear in children’s and young adult books, and her work has won numerous awards. Tracey lives on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with her family.

Tracey is a follower of Christ. She is a member of the Graphic Artists Guild, AIGA, and the Freelancers Union.

What is a “freelance artist”?

A freelance artist is a self-employed individual who makes and sells their artwork professionally They run their own small business with their art as their products. As freelancers, these artists choose their own hours, rates and clients. They perform a variety of tasks, including advertising their creations, collaborating with others and managing their small business. Freelance artists may also hold other full-time or part-time jobs to support themselves, while some artists live entirely from the profits of selling their art. Here are some examples of work freelance artists may complete:

  • Commissioned portraits

  • Mural painting

  • Artwork to hang on the wall

  • Logo design for companies

  • Illustrating children's books

  • Book design
